In the days of Model T and Model A Fords, snowbelt entrepreneurs manufactured "conversion kits" that included front skis, extra rear wheels and tracks. Fenders were removed and the entry doors shortened. Perhaps your Grandpa's postman or milkman used a vehicle like this!
